Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 2005
July 11th, 2012 by slangon
The Mets were once again starting to return to prominence in 2005. They sent 3 players to the All-Star team that year.
In his first year with the Mets, Pedro went 15-8 with a 2.82 ERA and 208 strikeouts. Too bad he would never stay healthy enough to sustain that kind of performance. Things might’ve been very different. He did not play in the ASG in 2005. Probably because he pitched 2 days before.
Mike Piazza joined Pedro in Detroit that year. As usual, he was the N.L.’s starting catcher. And as usual he went 0 for 2 with a strikeout. At least he’s consistent.
Beltran joined Piazza in the starting lineup in his first year as a Met. I was a little surprised to learn that Beltran had only been named to one other All-Star team before this, in 2004. He went 1 for 3 with a strikeout. His 1 hit was a third inning single. He made it to 3rd after a botched pick off attempt, but got no further.
