Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 2001
July 11th, 2012 by slangon

Coming off of their World Series defeat to the Yankees, the Mets sent 2 players to the ASG in 2001, as well as a manager.

Rick Reed made his second All-Star appearance that year. It’s crazy to think he had twice as many All-Star appearances as Edgardo Alfonzo, but hey, baseball’s a crazy sport. For all those All-Star Games, though, Reed never played. He rode the pine again in 2001.

Piazza was once again the starting backstop for the Senior Circuit. He played 5 innings and went 0 for 2.

Since the Mets went to the World Series the year before, Bobby V. got the honor of leading the National League into battle. Unfortunately they lost 4-1.
