Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 1990
July 10th, 2012 by slangon

1990 saw some new faces at the All-Star Game for the Metropolitans.

After coming to New York from the Reds during the off-season, John Franco was named to his last All-Star team. He pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th, but alas, the N.L. could not get anything going against A.L. pitching. The Senior Circuit fell by the score of 2-0.

Frank Viola also made his first All-Star appearance in a Mets uniform. He had been on the other side once before as a member of the Twins. He pitched the 5th inning, working around a lead off single to Sandy Alomar.

Of course what would an All-Star Game be without this guy. He struck out in his only at-bat and made an error in the field, but he did gun down Julio Franco at 3rd. That’s gotta count for something, right?
