Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 1985
July 10th, 2012 by slangon
1985 was another big year for the Mets when it came to All-Stars. For the second year in a row they sent 4 guys to the game.
In his first year with the Mets, Carter was named to his 8th All-Star team. Unfortunately, Terry Kennedy and Ozzie Virgil got all the playing time, leaving Kid to the role of cheer leader.
Dwight Gooden was named to his second All-Star team. He was sitting next to Gary Carter on the bench the entire time.
Ron Darling was making his first All-Star appearance. He spent the entire game holding Doc and Kid’s soda pops while they were chanting “Hey Batter Batter. Swing Batter.”
Straw was the only Met how saw any playing time in the ’85 ASG. He actually got the start in right field and was in until the bottom of the 5th. He singles, got hit by a pitch, stole a base, walked and scored 2 runs. Pretty good day, I’d say.
