I Guess the 8,020th Time is a Charm
June 2nd, 2012 by slangon

In case you haven’t yet heard, last night, Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in the history of the Mets franchise. I still haven’t quite processed it (or most of the beer that I drank in celebration last night), so I don’t really know what to say about it all as a fan.

I will say that I can imagine that this might be close to how Boston fans felt in 2004 when the Sox finally put the curse of the Bambino to rest. Maybe the no-hitter thing wasn’t quite the established “curse” that the Babe Ruth thing was for Boston, but it was such a part of the identity of the Mets and such a part of being a Mets fan for such a long time, no matter that it wasn’t exactly a positive thing.

With that being said, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this proud to be a Mets fan. Way to go Johan.

  1. I’m greedy, I want RA Dickey to make it back-to-back no-nos this afternoon…

  2. Ha! That’d be awesome. Actually, ever since Dickey joined the team, I always thought he might be the one to do it.
