There is No Joy in Mudville

And I’m not talking about the particularly crushing defeat of the Giants by the Packers last night.

My beloved Jose Reyes, my favorite player on my favorite team, is now a former player of my favorite team.

And to make matters worse, he is now a member of the team that I possibly hate the worst after the Phillies.

Scratch that. Now I hate them a little bit more than the Phillies.

I have a bad feeling that I’m going to physically get sick the first time I see Jose run out on the field dressed in those monstrosities that Florida Miami calls uniforms.

Aside from it being sickening that Jose will now be a Marlin, the Mets won’t even be getting any first round draft picks since the Marlins sucked so bad this year.

More than any of that, I feel like all the fun just left the Mets clubhouse.

I’m sure there’s lots of guys on the Mets who are fun and will provide the team with some energy, but somehow I don’t think it’ll be the same.

I can’t see anything coming close to the excitement of watching Jose send one into the gap and then turn on the jets heading for third.

Or that feeling of anticipation when he was on first and you just knew he was going to go at any minute.

Nothing was more fun than to watch a pitcher writhe and sweat and just look completely unhinged when Jose was on base.

Now the only time I’ll get to watch that happen is when it’s a Mets pitcher.

This is certainly the saddest I’ve been when it comes to the Mets in a long, long time. I wish I could say “Good luck in Miami, Jose” but I just don’t feel like it right now.

  1. Sorry, man!

  2. I went through this when CC left the Rays for the RED SOX. It’s terrible…but it gets better. Kinda.
