I Believe Some Congratulations are in Order

Yesterday around baseball a couple of significant milestones were reached.
First off, Jim Thome joined the 600 Home Run Club, becoming just the 8th man in the history of the game to do so. Thome reached the milestone in his 8167th at-bat. Only one other player in history did it faster. That player was Babe Ruth who needed only 6921 at-bats to do it. Jim still was quicker to 600 than some pretty good batsmen, including A-Rod, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. Hats off to you, Jimbo.
Another milestone that was reached last night was achieved by one of my own beloved Mets.
Jason Isringhausen earned his 300th Major League save last night against the Padres. Of course since they’re out on the West Coast, I was long asleep by the time it happened so I wasn’t able to witness it for myself. He joins 23 other pitchers who have done the deed and is currently tied with Bruce Sutter on the All-Time Saves list. In researching this I was kind of surprised to see how many former Mets were on that list. Aside from Izzy, Rick Aguilera, Roberto Hernandez, Randy Myers, Jeff Reardon, Billy Wagner and John Franco have all suited up for the Amazin’s and gotten to 300 saves. Of course K-Rod is only 9 saves away as well, so I’d imagine he’ll soon join that list. In Jason’s case, I do think it’s pretty awesome that he got his 1st save and his 300th save with the Mets. Congrats to you as well, Izzy.
