Interesting Strategy, Terry Collins
April 7th, 2011 by slangon

The finale of the first Mets/Phillies game just started a few minutes ago. I didn’t realize it until now that Terry Collins has decided that today would be a good day to rest Carlos Beltran. I understand the thinking. Carlos has those balky knees and Collins wants to help keep him fresh for the long season. I get it.

What I don’t get is why he would choose to do it on a day when the team is playing one of the toughest pitchers in the Majors in Roy Halladay. I was looking up Halladays numbers against the individual Mets batters and it turns out that Beltran has had good success against him. In 42 plate appearances, he’s hit .316 with 2 homers and 9 RBI. Wouldn’t you want that bat in the lineup against him?
