And the Troll Keeps on Truckin’
March 10th, 2010 by slangon
I’m sure by now everyone who is familiar with this here little bloggerverse has heard the tragic tale of the Collective Troll. Recently, Cards on Cards had received a trade package from the recently de-carded Troll and expressed his guilt upon receiving said package. I too recently received a trade package from the Troll and must admit I felt a little bad about taking cards from him at this most low point in his card collecting career.
Knowing him the little bit that I do from emailing and trading and overall discussing baseball and cards, I have a feeling that his Troll-ness would poo-poo that notion. In light of that, here’s the trade.
We had set up this trade a while back initially as yet another you-send-me-some-2010-Topps-I-need-and-I’ll-send-you-some-2010-Topps-you-need type of trade. I won’t bother showing them all, since by now, everyone is well aware of what they look like, but here are some favorites.
I think this leaves me with just one Met to get from the base set. Anyone got an extra Angel Pagan?
I for one am always glad to see team cards included in a set, but I must admit, I think I prefer the classic Class Photo style team card.

The Troll also knocked off the only 2 Met Cards That Your Mom Threw Out, which is pretty sweet. A sort of funny thing I was noticing about these cards the other day is how jarring the modern Topps logo looks when placed on these old designs. I wonder why they didn’t just use the Topps logo from whatever period the card was from. I think that would’ve been more interesting to see the logo evolution over the years. Regardless, I particularly like the ’72 Seaver. He looks sort of like he’s trying to hypnotize the viewer.
Speaking of 1972 Tom Seaver, Troll also tossed in a handful of extras, including this guy:
And you thought the When They Were Young inserts were something innovative.
One last card that Troll included wasn’t really a throw-in as I knew it was coming. It was however a completely awesome thing for him to do. A while back I had sent him a package of custom Pirates and Orioles since he lives right near their Spring Training facilities and mentioned that he might swing by. He ended up getting this for me:
He was telling me that when he got it signed, apparently Ryan Church was a little confused as to why someone would want a Mets card of him since he’s a Pirate now. What can I say? I liked him when he was a Met and was sad to see him go (even though by him leaving, Jeff Francoeur came to New York and has quickly become one of my favorite Mets).
Anyway, that concludes a very nice package from a very cool dude. Thanks again, Troll, and good luck with everything. I hope them cards turn up soon.
