TTM Success, Brooklyn Style

Right before Christmas, I had made a big push and sent out a pretty big pile of custom cards to get signed. It didn’t take too long for them to start coming back. This was one of them.

Erskine, or “Oisk” as he was known in Brooklyn, was part of the powerhouse Brooklyn Dodgers teams of the late 40’s and early 50’s. He helped the Dodgers to 5 National League Pennants and 1 World Series title. There were 7 no-hitters in the National League during the decade of the 1950’s. 2 of them were thrown by Erskine.

He ended his career shortly after the Dodgers moved to the left coast. His final record was 122 wins against 78 losses, an even 4.00 ERA and 981 strikeouts.

I was also impressed to learn that while playing in Brooklyn, he lived in Bay Ridge, where he could often be found on neighborhood sandlots, offering advice and encouragement to the kids playing there. Although now-a-days that might be considered a little creepy, in the late 40’s and early 50’s, that was pretty awesome.
