The National Pride Mystery

I pointed out in one of my previous posts that I’ve noticed that the National Pride inserts have been coming in boxes sequentially.

My first hobby box, I got these (not the order I pulled them): 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51

See, every one from 28 through 51.

My first blaster box, I pulled these: 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37

My second blaster, I got these: 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

So far every box has had a sequential run of the National Pride inserts. The final box that I’ve opened so far I wasn’t 100% sure about, so I went back and checked.

This is what I got in the second hobby box I cracked: 23 24 25 26 27 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 58

Now that’s weird. It goes from 23 to 27, skips 28, then continues 29 through 46, and finally that last lonely 58. Could this mean that the whole sequential conspiracy is no more? I think not. It seems that somehow, this box was supposed to contain a straight run of 23-46, but somehow 28 got switched out with 58.

The thing that I find interesting about this whole sequential conspiracy is that, if it is true, and so far it would seem so, then that would imply that Topps knows what cards are in what packs. Wouldn’t it? And if that is true, what’s to stop some unscrupulous employee from fashioning a blaster box comprised of 8 packs, each containing 6 (or I guess 5 really. packs with a framed insert contain 5 cards) autographs or relics?

I’ve got my eye on you, Topps.
