Christmas Cards (The Kind Without Glitter) Part II
December 31st, 2009 by slangon
Moving along with the card haul I managed to receive for Christmas, here is the highlights from the T206 blaster that I was given by my lovely sister-in-law.
First up, is a batch of rookies that I’m pretty excited to get, and not in a prospector way. More in a these-guys-were-pretty-exciting-to watch-last-season-and-I’m-interested-to-see-how-they-develop kind of way.
Here’s 2 more rookies that were pretty good this year. These 2 happened to have a different back.
Next up we have a quartet of Mets. Normally I’d be really excited to pull these, being a Mets collector and all. This time I’m a little torn. I might have mentioned this somewhere before, but I ended up signing up for I am Joe Collector’s monthly box break for January, and wouldn’t you know it, part of it is 2 boxes of T206. And, you guessed it, I signed up for the Mets. Not counting SP variations, there are 11 Mets in the T206 set. I have 6 already. I see a lot of Mets doubles in my future.
Two old timers. I always love getting retired players in these retro sets. I’m not sure why. I’m sure it’s just that being as big a baseball history nut that I am, a lot of these old timers have just about reached sainthood in my head. I’m pretty excited about these 2 in particular. It’s also pretty damn awesome that the Ruth card is him as a Red Stocking. When was the last time you saw a card of Babe Ruth as anything other than a Yankee?
Saving the best for last, here’s all the minis I got. Nobody earth shattering, but that’s the cool thing about shrinking a card. Even Johnny Damon becomes cool. Oh, and here’s the backs…
As you can see, they’re all Piedmonts except for that lone Polar Bear of Brad Hawpe.
Overall, nothing spectacular, but how often does anyone get something spectacular out of a blaster? It’s a really nice set, and at first I kept telling myself that I wasn’t going to collect it. The more of these cards that come into my hands, though, the more I’m starting to get the itch.
Also, I got my package from Dave and Adam’s Card World yesterday.
It’s going to be a fun New Years. Which reminds me, I just want to thank all the people who’ve taken the time to read this blog over the last few months and all the other blogger out there who’ve welcomed me into the fold. Have a fun (and safe) New Year’s everyone! I’ll see you next year.
