Card of the Moment #13

1975 Topps #321 Rudy May

75TOPPSmayRudy May had been traded to the Yankees from the Angels mid-way through the 1974 season. He had be mostly a relief pitcher and spot starter over on the left coast, but went onto a respectable 8 and 4 record and a 2.28 ERA for the Bronx Bombers after the trade. He followed this with a middle of the road 14-12 season in 1975, complete with 3.06 ERA and 145 K’s.

None of that has to do with the reason that Rudy is the 13th Card of the Moment.

This does:

I mean, I’m well aware that card design back in the day never heard of PhotoShop or a computer, but come on. You couldn’t find anyone that could airbrush a better Yankees logo? I mean, what is that? I know Topps has a long standing track record of humorously crappy airbrushing jobs, but I cannot recall seeing such an egregious example of artistic ineptitude.

For that, this 1975 Topps Rudy May and, more specifically, the unnamed airbrush “artist” behind it are bestowed the honor of the Card of the Moment.
