1973 Topps #1 All Time Home Run Leaders: Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays

73Topps1

I’ve always loved cards that depict more than one player. Classic Combo cards, team cards, league leader cards, you name it, I love it. I find leader cards to be especially nice because if a player is on a leader card, you can assume that he’s probably pretty good.

I’d venture to say that you can apply that logic to the three guys on this card.

There’s a few cool things about this card. One, being that it’s from 1973, I feel you could make a pretty good argument that it is “vintage”. Two, the record it represents is one of the most hallowed of all baseball records. Plus, this card represents that record before it became tainted and and object of suspicion. Three, it’s a card of Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. And four, even though it’s a “vintage” card of Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays, with a little work you can track this sucker down for probably less than the price of a blaster box.

  1. That’s what drives me nuts. Every time I’m on the verge of buying a blaster/ripping wax I think of the badass vintage I could get for the same money.

I’ve had a copy of this card for years now, and I’ll agree with you that it is pretty sweet.
