2010 SlangKo’s Heroes of the Diamond: Intro
August 9th, 2009 by slangon
A while back, I was sitting around drinking a beer on my back porch, thinking about insert sets. I personally enjoy insert sets quite a bit. Sometimes, quite a bit more that whatever base set they’re part of. Take 2009 Topps, for instance. The base cards are fine. I think they’re a smidge nicer than Topps base sets of recent memory, but really the only reasons I ever buy any packs are to either try to get Mets cards, try to get some sort of a relic or autograph (although I think the relic cards are sort of busted looking), or for the inserts. This years Topps especially, what with Turkey Reds and Legends of the Game and all.
And not that Allen and/or Ginter need any more hyping, but I feel like the inserts from that set are particularly interesting. They’ve got their baseballs covered with the National Pride and Highlights sets, but I think the Creaturesof Legend, Hoaxes, and National Heroes sets are a bit cooler (I’m not including the Inventions or Extinct Creatures sets here because, well what are the chances I’ll ever own any of them, so they can go piss up a tree).
While thinking about mythical creatures and bamboozles and all the things I learned about different countries national heroes, I began to wonder what sort of insert set I would come up with if given the chance. I had a few ideas, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought why stop there? Why not design an entire set of baseball cards?
So thats what I’ve decided to do. Thus begins the journey towards the birth of the 2010 SlangKo Heroes of the Diamond Baseball Trading Card set.
Dude, are you still looking to trade away those Allen & Ginter’s cards?
Let’s make a deal!
Yes sir. If you take a look at the top right of my page, under My Wants/Haves, I have a list of 09 ginters I need. Just let me know if you can hit any of them. You can email me at conditionpoor[at]gmail.com.
Thanks.
