James Butler Hickok (b. May 27, 1837, d. August 2, 1876), Gunfighter: Went west at age 18 as a fugitive from justice. Gained fame as a frontier lawman and gambler. Was shot from behind and killed while playing poker in a Deadwood saloon by an unsuccessful gambler named Jack McCall. Was holding aces and eights at the time of the shooting.
