We’re Going to the World Series
October 26th, 2009 by slangon
So the ALCS and NLCS are distant memories. The Phightin’ Phils will be facing the Bronx Bombers in what hacky sportswriters are already dubbing “The Turnpike Series”. As a lifelong Jersey resident, I’m not sure how I feel about being dragged into this, especially when you consider how much I dislike both teams, but what can you do?
With that being said, the scores have been tallied and it’s still anyone’s game. Nachos Grande had a slight lead going in, but CC Sabathia winning the ALCS MVP has catapulted everyone who picked the Yankees pitching staff right back into this thing.
So now, of course, it’s time to make your final picks. I think this last round will be a tough one. As much I hate the Phillies and dislike the Yankees, there’s an awful lot of good players on those teams. Who to pick? I know so far some folks have been not picking Yankees for moral reasons. Will that hold up? We shall see.
I’m really hoping that this series goes the distance. Part of the reason I decided to have this contest to begin with was because my production on the SlangKo Heroes of the Diamond card set had slowed to a trickle and I was hoping that by offering some of them as a prize, it would light a fire under my ass. I have gotten more done in these last few weeks than I have in the last few months, but I still have 4 or 5 cards I need to finish just to have the 8 post season teams done. So right now, I guess I’m rooting for both teams just so the Series will go 7 games. I think it might. I think both the Yankees and the Phils are too good for there to be any sweepage going on.
I think it’s going to be interesting too to see these two power-hitting teams play in those two ballparks. I wonder how many combined home runs there will be over the course of the series. Actually, I’ll add that as a bonus question / tie breaker. Along with your player picks, let me know how many home runs you think will be hit by both teams over the course of the series. I don’t mean how many will the Phils hit and how many will the Yanks hit. I mean how many combined. If two people end up tied at the end, that will be the tie breaker. Additionally, whoever gets the closest without going over will get a Bonus Prize. (For the tie breaker, I don’t care if you go over. Just whoever is the closest.)
Once again, you can just leave a comment to give your new picks. Good luck to all.

Okay…I’m losing by a ton and need a miracle. And I won’t pick Yankees. So I’m limited haha. I’ll pick some good guys and some oddballs.
I’m going to go with some Werth, Ibanez, and Ruiz, as well as the Phillies pitching staff. And I’ll go with 8 for homeruns. Even though I’m picking homeruns too early and someone will probably pick 9 just to price is right me. We’ll see.
Aye aye aye, CC ruined my lead!
I’ll take:
Phillies pitching for the third consecutive round
And for hitters:
A-rod (ugh, I feel so dirty picking him), Utley, Werth
Tie breaker: 11 homers.
Phillies pitching staff
Howard
Utley
Werth
home runs: 14
