Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 1997
July 11th, 2012 by slangon

Well, I’m not quite sure how I feel about that game last night. Being a National League guy, I’m definitely psyched that they won in such decisive fashion and I’m happy to see that they’re putting together a streak of their own after losing to the A.L. for so many years in a row. I just kind of feel like jumping so far out so early in the game made watching the rest of it a little anti-climatic. Ahh, f— that. It was awesome. It was good to see Dickey get himself out of trouble. I just wish Wright had a bit of a better game. But moving on with the Mets All-Stars of the past…

1997 saw Tood Hundley head to his second and final All-Star Game. He rode the pine the entire time.

The Mets also sent Bobby Jones to the Mid-Summer Classic that year. It was his only All-Star appearance. He came into the game in the bottom of the 8th with the N.L. down 3-1 and kept it that way. He gave up a leadoff single to Brady Anderson but then got Nomar to groundout to get the force at second. Then he fanned Ken Griffey and Mark McGwire. Sadly, the N.L. couldn’t score in the top of the 9th and they lost 3-1.
