Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 1977
July 10th, 2012 by slangon

Thus starts some dark days for the New York Mets. Gone are the seasons of sending multiple players to the Mid-Summer Classic. For a while at least.

John Stearns was the Mets only representative at the ASG in 1977. Tom Seaver was there based partly on his 7-3 start with the Mets, but he was wearing the uniform of the Cincinnati Reds by the time July rolled around. Although, Stearns numbers were okay for a catcher, especially back then, I get the feeling he was just in there because they had to choose someone from the Mets. He did not get any at-bats, but did replace Ted Simmons for defense in the 9th. The National Leaguers won, 7-5.
