Mets Through the Years: The All-Star(s), 1971
July 9th, 2012 by slangon
The Mets sent a couple of All-Star “veterans” to the Mid-Summer Classic in 1971.
Bud Harrelson was named to his second and final All-Star team, again mostly based on his glove. He started the game at shortstop and went o for 2.
I wonder if Tom was beginning to get bored with being named to the All-Star team yet? This was the fifth year in a row that Seaver was named to the team. He did not play in the game this year, however. The N.L. was also handed a rare loss, which was actually their first loss since MLB returned to the one-All-Star-Game-per-year structure in 1963. Coincidence?
