The Silver Lining

So the Mets just finished up a 6 game road trip during which they played .500 baseball. I’m fine with that since most baseball people seem to think that if you have a winning record at home and can play .500 ball on the road, you should be fine. What I don’t like is the fact that they ended the trip with 2 extremely ugly losses in which their 2 best pitchers got the crap hammered out of them and the defense looked like a bunch of little leaguers.

What was sort of awesome though was that when this guy

drove in Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the 5th inning yesterday, he tied this guy

for the most runs batted in in New York Mets franchise history. Some other club records David has a legitimate shot at this season (assuming he stays healthy and in a Mets uniform) include runs scored (31 runs behind Jose Reyes), hits (153 behind Ed Kranepool) and walks (40 behind Darryl Strawberry).

Congrats to you David, and here’s to your next rib eye. Hopefully that one won’t be in a losing effort.
