The Fastest Trade in the East
August 10th, 2011 by slangon

For the last month or so, this blog has been clogged up with all the cards that I scored during the month of June. That doesn’t mean that things weren’t happening, and happening quickly. Last week, AJ from The Lost Collector had contacted me about a card that he had for me from the 1960 Topps set that I needed. The first email he sent came in at 10:40 am on Friday. At 11:44 am, a trade was worked out and addresses exchanged. At around noon on Saturday there was a envelope in my mailbox. Astounding. Anyway, here’s the card he sent.

1960 Topps #183 Eli Grba

I’m not 100% positive about this but I think Eli Grba is the only player in Major League history to have a last name that starts with 3 consonants. What I am positive about is that after going to the World Series with the Yankees in 1960, he was drafted by the Angels in the expansion draft and threw the first pitch in Angels history.

AJ also threw in this card.

2010 Bowman #BDP73 Josh Thole

You know that saying “a face only a mother could love”? I feel like this is a card that only a Mets fan could love.

So there it is. The (A Little Over) 24 Hour Turnaround Trade.

  1. What about Kent Hrbek??? 🙂

  2. Fastest trade ever. We have a lot to live up to for Trade #2 down the road. Good luck with the 1960 set!

  3. I like that Eli card.

What about Mike Grzanich and Joe Grzenda? And don’t forget Darryl Strawberry and Stephen Strasburg.

There’s also Mike Schmidt, who was known around the clubhouse as Mr. Consonant. Actually, that nickname was first given to Ossee Schrecongost. Blackie Schwamb went around calling himself that, but it never caught on.

Jerry Schypinski scoffed at Matt Skrmetta and Lou Sylvester.

    That was fun.
