The Preview

At this point, I’m still working out some details on the checklist, but I think I’ve pretty much got the design of the base cards locked down. I have a handful of them done, but for now I’m just going to show you this:

M_Pelfrey_frontOf course I was going to start with a Met. I think I had mentioned that initially I wanted to go with Ollie Perez for my Mets pitcher, but you know what, I changed my mind. I don’t really know why either. I decided I was just going to go with my gut reaction for picking players and not really over think it.

Plus, since I SkangKo’s Sports Card Division doesn’t have an in-house photographer, I had to rely on whatever semi-high resolution photos I could swipe off the ‘net. And sometimes, guys that I wanted to do a card of just didn’t have any cool high-res photos.

As you can see, the design is a very basic, old-timey tobacco type card. Not too different from a T206, but tweaked a little bit. Got the hand colored photo in there, which turned out to be a lot more time consuming than I initially anticipated. I think it’s worth it though. I like the way it ended up.

M_Pelfrey_backAnd here’s the back. You astute readers will recognize this from somewhere else, but I assure you, I made this first and then got lazy with that other thing, not the other way round. The only thing still up in the air for this card is the number. I’m still working out parts of the checklist, including card numbers.

So there you have it. The first of the SlangKo Heroes of the Diamond base set. At this point I haven’t decided how I’m going to reveal the rest of the base set, but more will come soon.
