Yippee. It’s the Subway Series, Game 1

Well, it’s Subway Series time. You know, I remember a time when I would actually be excited by this. Now, not so much. I’m a little over it. I guess you can thank the media hype-machine for that.

In years past I would always be rooting like crazy for the Mets to win just for the sake of beating the Yankees. I think anyone who’s not a Yankees fan can relate to that.

This time around, I’m just rooting for the Mets because I want to see them continue this little roll that they’re on. At one point in the young season, they were 5-13. At one point they were 8.5 games out of 1st, mired in the cellar of the N.L. East. Now thanks to actually winning more games than they’ve been losing lately, coupled with the rest of the N.L. East losing a little more than they’ve been winning, they’re out of last place, one win shy of being back to .500 and only 5 games behind 1st. They just need to keep up the pace and keep making up ground, regardless of whether it’s against the Yankees or whoever.

Of course that only becomes that more difficult thanks to the fact that they have to do it without David Wright or Ike Davis in the lineup. Fortunately the Mets pitching has been doing really well lately, both starting and relieving. Let’s see if they can keep that up against a lineup that’s a little bit more potent than the lineups of the Astros and the Nationals.
