Anybody Notice Anything Wrong Here?
December 11th, 2010 by slangon

As some of you may or may not remember, over the summer I busted a box of 2010 Allen & Ginter as part of Gintacuffs II, as well as a hobby box of 2010 Series 2 baseball. Both of those ended up popping out redemption cards of one kind or another. They were the first redemptions of any sort that I’ve ever laid my greasy little mitts on, so I’ve never had any experience with the redemption process. I have however read enough posts on the interweb machine to know that redemptions don’t always go as smoothly as one would hope. I plugged my precious little codes in a while back and have sort of forgotten about them since the projected shipping dates on both cards were about 10 years away.

For whatever reason, a few days ago they popped into my head so I decided to stroll on over to the Topps site to see what the status was. This is what I saw.

Notice anything strange? Yes. The Red Hot Rookie Redemption which wasn’t scheduled to ship until January has been shipped out, but the Dale Davis autograph redemption which was supposed to ship about a month ago is still pending. That’s cool about the Rookie Redemption, but what the hell is up with the Davis auto? Sure enough, when I checked through my old emails, I found one from Topps Support that read thusly:

Dear Consumer.

This email is to inform you that the Topps Company is currently beyond the 15 week processing time allocated for the following redemption card:

Product: Card/Player Name
Topps Allen & Ginter Dale Davis

Our staff is working diligently to process and ship your redemption card as soon as possible. Please continue to check your Online Redemption account for updates regarding the status of your card.

If you no longer wish to wait for the redemption card, please contact our Consumer Relations team in order to place a substitution request for a card of equal Beckett value.

Do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Relations department via phone at 1-800-489-9149 or via email at support@etopps.com for assistance. A consumer relations representative will be available to assist you Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30 pm (ET).

Sincerely,

Consumer Relations
The Topps Company, Inc.

Looks as if the Topps Redemption Department has claimed another victim. I really torn on what to do. I guess I don’t mind waiting, but exactly how long will I end up waiting. I’m sort of not so keen on requesting a substitute, though. First of all, the Davis autograph is pretty awesome so I really want that card. Second of all, I’m really nervous about what exactly they would send my way that’s “of equal Beckett value”. They don’t even specify that it’ll be an autograph. Am I going to end up with a Max Poser domino relic or something? What to do, what to do?

Any suggestions?
