2010 Topps Series 2 Hobby Box, Part 5

Pack 13 (Ruth):

425 Dontrelle Willis
574 Milwaukee Brewers TC
416 Ruben Tejada RC
376 Esmil Rogers RC
331 Ryan Braun
LL-49 Lou Brock / Carl Crawford
TMC-18 Thurmon Munson

389 Troy Tulowitzki
481 Scott Rolen
Derrek Lee Attax

Not bad. A Met who had a cup of coffee with the team when Reyes was still out, a pretty awesome Lou Brock / Carl Crawford card and another code card. The Braun and Dontrelle cards are pretty cool as well.

Pack 14 (Cobb):

387 Josh Fields
434 Kevin Slowey
648 Brian Fuentes
572 Clay Buchholz
377 Felix Hernandez
TR80 Kosuke Fukudome
TMC-17 Roger Maris

658 Tommy Hunter
624 Carlos Beltran
Billy Butler Attax

Well, I think Cobb did just a little better. This pack also coughed up a Met, this one being a guy that I really hope gets back soon although things aren’t looking encouraging. Cobb also gave up another code and a Turkey Red. Actually, to this point, all the Turkey Reds that I’ve gotten have come from Cobb packs. What’s up with that?

Pack 15 (Mantle):

501 Jake Peavy
591 Fernando Rodney
638 Paul Konerko
497 Edgar Renteria
656 Jon Lester
468 Delmon Young Gold Border 0732/2010
PP-90 Richie Ashburn
369 David Ortiz

412 San Francisco Giants TC
Yunel Escobar Attax

Eh. I don’t really know if I like the whole Gold Border thing. I do know that the way they put the serial number on the back these days looks like garbage. That Richie Ashburn card is pretty sweet though.

Pack 16 (Pedroia):

531 Matt Cain
655 Ryan Madson
474 Kyle Kendrick
642 San Diego Padres FH
CMT96 Randy Johnson
VLC6 Willie McCovey
You Sketch It card

581 Chris Dickerson
419 David Aardsma
570 Josh Willingham
Justin Verlander Attax

It’s sort of a shame with that Willie McCovey card. To me, the greatest aspect of the 1953 set was the painted portraits, so when you just plug a plain photograph into that design, I find it falls a little flat. I haven’t really made up my mind with them sketch cards.

The Verdict:

Although it was a pretty close call between the Cobb and the Ruth, I think Cobb took it by a hair. And I think Pedroia just nudged out Mantle to avoid ending up in last again. So that leaves us with Cobb, Ruth, Pedroia and Mantle.

Cobb – 15
Ruth – 11
Pedroia – 8
Mantle – 6
