A Couple of More Spring Training TTM Successes
March 15th, 2010 by slangon
I received 2 more TTM successes the other day, both post marked from West Palm Beach. That could only mean one thing. Spring Training Mets cards.
2010 SlangKo Heroes of the Diamond Ryota Igarashi Black Border
Iggy is one of the handful of Mets relievers who are trying to stake a claim for the 8th inning set-up guy down in Port St. Lucie. Early word was that he has a power fastball with a good hard splitter that he can throw for strikes. He also was working on curveball that he was showing good command with. So far though, things haven’t been looking so rosy for him. In 5 appearances, he’s got an even 6.00 ERA and blown 1 save in 2 chances. Let’s hope he can turn things around. Considering the way K-Rod went during the second half of last season, the Mets can’t well afford to have a shaky 8th inning guy as well. I like that he signed his name in Japanese. I also like the face he’s making in this picture.
2010 SlangKo Sport Stars #53 Bobby Parnell
Speaking of guys trying to nail down that 8th inning role, here’s a nice little card of Bobby Parnell. When I send out these autograph requests, I never really give specific signing instructions. I mean, the way I look at it, this stranger is already doing you a big favor by signing a card and sending it back to you. It seems a little forward to also ask them to write “Dear So-and-so” or sign some sort of inscription*. That being said, I always very much appreciate when they do add things to the autograph, be it their number or a Hall of Fame induction year or something like that. I especially like when they actually write “To Sean”. Parnell was also very shaky in his first 2 spring appearances, but mad it through his last 2 unscathed. Let’s hope he can keep that momentum up.
(* I will admit that when I sent a request to Walt “No Neck” Williams, I had specifically asked him to sign it with his nick name, which he unfortunately did not. That’s just such a cool nick name, I couldn’t resist. I’ve kind of felt bad about it ever since.)
