Thanks Cards on Cards, Thanks A Lot

A while ago, Cards on Cards held a little College Bowl Pick ‘Em contest. I had the dubious distinction of being the worst out of everyone when it came to picking the winners of College Bowl games. Madding was good enough to send some prizes my way as a way of enabling my poor football predicting skills.
If you can’t see so good, that was 2 packs of 1989 Topps, 1 pack of 1988 Donruss, 1 pack of 1991 Fleer Ultra, 1 fatty pack of 1990 Fleer, a ziplock bag of assorted cards, and 2 packs of something called 1992 Baseball Enquirer Mystery Interview cards, which I will not delve into in this post because they’re so weird they deserve they’re own post. And it was all accompanied by a note which simpley read “Congrats?”
Let’s run through the highlights of the packs first.
A bully, a cheater and an awesome baseball player who seems to be a really nice guy.
A favorite Met, a couple of mustachioed bad-asses, a couple more cheaters, a few Hall of Famers, a soon to be Hall of Famer and a dude that isn’t so entertaining when he doesn’t have a profanity laced bat in his hand.
You can’t go wrong with Mex and I like that Mattingly, even if he is posing with another cheater. Those stickers are awesome as is that Dale Murphy card. And there’s Greg Vaughn and Eric Davis.
Another Tony Gwynn, alongside of Darryl and the Big Unit, alongside the right side of the Giants infield alongside Chuck Knoblauch. (It’s always very weird for me to see Straw in anything but a Mets uniform.)
As I said, I’m saving those Baseball Enquirer things for they’re own post. I will say though, that they might be the weirdest thing I’ve seen in all of my collecting days. But enough about that, on to the zip lock bag.
Madding included a bunch of late 90’s /early 00’s Mets, including some personal favorites, such as Olerud, Fonzie, Leiter, Franco and Ventura. Those Chrome cards are really cool looking, but as most people probably have found out, they don;t scan worth a damn.
He also threw in this sweet Wright Diamond Debut, that Johan gold border All-Star and that Jacque Jones jersey card. I don;t really know too much about Jones as a player, but I have to say, I’ve always kind of liked him based purely on the fact that his name is Jacque. I’m curious though. On the card, he’s listed as a Cub, but shown as a Twin. So which team is that swatch from? In certain lights, it looks too dark to be Cubs blue, but in other lights it doesn’t. Weird.
There was also something else in that package. Something I never thought would make it’s way into my home.
Yikes! I’ve been Kirbipped! Actually, little did he know that I’ve been trying to build 20 sets of 1990 Donruss, and I needed a Kirby Puckett MVP to finish each one out. So thanks, Madding. You’ve helped me finish 20 sets. Thanks a lot.
haha, best response to a bipping ever.
You’re welcome!
