A Package From Milwaukee
November 14th, 2009 by slangon
As I was collecting the mail the other day, there was a manilla envelope hiding was in the back, behind the phone bill and a Home Depot flyer. Hmm, what’s this? I don’t believe I’m expecting any trades. eBay? I haven’t won anything recently? What could it be? Then I remembered.
It’s my prize package from Thorzuls Nightmare on Cardboard II. Now I could sit here and go on and on about how I entered for the love of making cards, and winning was just a nice plus and I don’t really care what I won, but I’m not going to lie. I’ve been super excited to get my prize and been very curious as to what it would be. The only communiqué that I had with Thorzul was him asking for my address and what team I collect. I would assume that meant I was going to be getting some Mets cards, but outside of that, I knew nothing. I guess there’s one way to remedy that.
First up…
2008 Allen & Ginter #AGR-DW David Wright Game Used Jersey Relic
Sweet. I love David Wright. I love Allen & Ginter framed relics. I even love road jerseys. I think I only have 2 relic cards from the 2008 set, and I haven’t looked at them in a while. I don’t think I ever noticed the shield with the crossed plant things that frames out the actual swatch. Great card. Only my 3rd Wright relic, so I’m psyched.
And secondly…
2009 Upper Deck Spectrum Swatches #SS-PM Game Used Jersey Relic
Another awesome card. Actually my first and only Pedro relic. This one actually makes me a little sad. Not sad that Thorzul sent me a beautiful Pedro Martinez relic card. Sad because I get sad thinking of Pedro these days. Pedro was always one of my favorite players way before he came to the Mets. When I heard he was coming I just liked him that much more. There was so much hope. I guess I get sad thinking about what might’ve been if he wasn’t hurt the entire 4 years just about. It just adds to the sadness that out of all teams, he ended up in the World Series with the Phillies. Oh well. Now I have a little piece of him from when he called Flushing home.
Thanks again, Thorzul. Looking forward to next years contest.
Nice cards. I agree with your sentiment on Pedro. It would have been nice if he’d been able to pitch in a World Series for the Mets.
Also, nice cards. I, too, agree with your sentiment on Pedro. I will differ with Paul on his next line. It would have been nice if he’d been able to pitch in a World Series for the Expos.
